synopsis
If the San Francisco police do not immediately hand over $200,000 to a man who has just committed a crime, he will strike again, killing one person each day. But Inspector Harry Callahan is hot on his trail…
The pleasures of this movie are abundant. The pacing is as swift as a speeding bullet. There are wonderfully evoked lived-in San Francisco locations. And there are splendid set pieces that showcase the perpetually-underrated Don Siegel's great skill a director. This film is efficient, unpretentious and much wittier and more stylish than your average cop movie.

It's been referenced in everything from Ferris Bueller's Day Off to Die Hard With A Vengeance. It's been spoofed well in The Naked Gun, and not in Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot. And it marked the continuation of a beautiful mentor/protege friendship between Siegel and Eastwood. A friendship which saw them work together a total of seven times, and one which would finally be commemorated in 1992 when Eastwood dedicated Unforgiven to his lifelong compadre.
