The Cinémathèque is a cherished historic building, but its facilities have aged and no longer meet modern standards of comfort, safety, functionality, and accessibility.
Renovations planned from 2026 to 2029 aim to provide all visitors with a high-quality experience.
Key goals include improving accessibility for people with reduced mobility, upgrading safety and comfort, modernizing technical equipment, and optimizing the spaces to better welcome audiences.
Transforming the Cinémathèque is a major undertaking that takes time and attention.
Each stage — from renovation to modernization and expansion — aims to preserve the building’s character while meeting the needs of today and the future.

While the renovations are underway, the Cinémathèque’s screenings will be hosted at several locations around the city, including the Théâtre des Capucins and the Cercle Cité.
Each month, depending on availability, audiences can continue to enjoy their favourites — Cinema Paradiso, Afternoon Adventures, Great Restorations, Comedy Classics, and many more surprises.
After all, the Cinémathèque is more than just a cinema building…
