The Miradas/Blécker short-film competition, organised by the Círculo Cultural Antonio Machado, is now in its 19th edition. The competition promotes short films made in Spain, with a particular focus on works that offer social reflection or critique. In this way, it serves as a bridge between Spanish culture and Luxembourg’s diverse communities.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the Círculo Antonio Machado (1976–2026), a selection of around ten short films from across the competition’s 19 editions has been assembled, bringing together films that have particularly stayed with us. Some won awards but had limited opportunities for distribution due to various circumstances, notably the pandemic. Others did not receive prizes, yet we felt they deserved greater recognition. Finally, some are beginning to fade from memory, and we wanted to give them a renewed place and invite audiences to rediscover them.
