synopsis
Mimi, a Sicilian laborer, loses his job after refusing to vote for the Mafia’s candidate. Leaving his wife behind, he goes to the city and revives his spirits in the arms of the radical Fiorella, with whom he starts a new life as a reliable husband and father. But the past comes back to haunt him…
Sexual hypocrisies and political dilemmas rarely flow smoothly onto the screen. But Lina Wertmuller excels in conveying both in The Seduction of Mimi. Her films are deeply political, and her characters dwell in realms where politics cannot be escaped – whether in Mussolini's Italy or modern Sicily.
